About the IT Department

The information Technology Department is dedicated to supporting the City of South Padre island mission to innovate and enhance customer experience and technology services, The IT department serves as the central point of contact for all technology-related issues, providing critical assistance to municipal employees across diverse departments—from police and fire to public works, finance, and administration. We provide with cohesive technical support and strategic planning for the future, we ensure that system maintenance and ensure that all City departments are appropriately equipment with efficient technology.

 

This support is essential for maintaining the daily operations and public-facing services that citizens rely on.

Core Functions & Responsibilities:

·       Front-Line Troubleshooting: Providing immediate support for hardware (desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices) and software (email, office applications, operating systems).

·       Specialized Software Support: Assisting with unique government software for public safety (Computer-Aided Dispatch - CAD; Records Management Systems - RMS)

 

·       User & Access Management: Setting up new employee accounts, managing passwords, and ensuring staff have appropriate access to networks, files, and applications.

 

·       Network & Connectivity: Diagnosing and resolving issues related to internet, Wi-Fi, and network access to ensure all departments remain connected.

·       Security & Compliance: Acting as a first line of defense against cyber threats by identifying phishing attempts, managing antivirus software, and ensuring all technology use complies with strict standards like CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) and PCI (for payment processing).
