At a Glance

Mobi Mats
The City was notified last week that the General Land Office (GLO) will be working on a contract to purchase seven rolls of vehicular mobi-mats for the City. The mats will help replace ones that have been damaged from heavy use over the last 5 years. This will increase the city's supply of mobi-mats by 350 linear feet and they will be installed at access points along Gulf Boulevard.








Convention Centre Restroom Renovations
The City began the bidding process for renovations to the restroom facilities at the Convention Center. The Item will be placed on the City Council agenda on April 18, 2012 for approval.








WAVE Ridership
The WAVE Ridership for the month of March was 63,295, which is up by 5,827 riders from March of 2011. The WAVE's total operated hours for the month of March was 1,733, and the total miles traveled was 31,464.







Natural Habitat Lots
The Environmental Health Services Department inspected a total of 18 properties that applied for Natural Habitat lots. A total of 15 lots were approved and 3 have more work to do to meet the criteria.








Texas Travel Counselors
In October 2011, the Texas Travel Counselors had a five-day Study Tour of the Coastal Rio Grande Valley where they passed through 19 cities, ate at 14 restaurants, and visited 38 attractions. They were hosted by 14 step-on guides. The counselors give awards to the "BEST" and out of eight categories, South Padre Island have won five:
  • Best Hotel - The Pearl
  • Best Attraction - Breakaway Cruises Dolphin Watch
  • Best Dinner - Schlitterbahn Waterpark
  • Best Step-on Guide - DeeOnda Ahadi
  • Best City - South Padre Island

Recycling
Recyclable items can be taken to Island Baptist Church every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Items that can be recycled are:
  • Newspaper
  • Cardboard
  • Office Paper
  • Aluminum
  • Tin
  • Plastic
To offer a better recycling service please:
  • Compact, crush or break down plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, aluminum cans or any other items that may be reduced in size. This helps us use the most amount of space in the bins.
  • Remove any food, liquid, metal fasteners, adhesive materials or other items that may contaminate the whole load.

Toastmasters Wanted
The Islanders Toastmasters International Club is now open to the public and invites all to participate and develop valuable communication and leadership skills. "The Islanders" meet every Thursday at 12:00pm at the City Hall Board Room. Animal Control
Lost or found an animal on the Island? The South Padre Island's Animal Control is working together with the Friends of Animals Rescue Group. Their foster based recovery center helps to reunite lost and found pets with their families. Friends of Animal Rescue will make every effort to reunite lost animals with their families. Animals that are not reunited will be vetted by Friends of Animal Rescue and placed with new families. Lost or found a pet please call (956) 761-PETS.

Beach-N-Biker Fest

SPI Convention Centre



The members of the Magic Valley Riders Motorcycle Club Inc., host this annual charity fundraiser each spring on beautiful South Padre Island Texas. The annual motorcycle rally includes Concerts and music all weekend, a Parade, a Poker Run, Biker Games, a Ride in Bike Show, food and clothing vendors and much more.
