On Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011, the South Padre Island Police, Fire and Code Enforcement will host the Annual National Night Out event along with thousands of communities nationwide. This is the City's 2nd time to host the event and it will take place at the Island Baptist Church parking lot at 107 W. Mesquite St. from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen our communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and with their local law enforcement partners. The goal is to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and most importantly, send a message that our neighborhoods united and fighting back.
Last year's "27th Annual National Night Out" campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states including for the first time South Padre Island. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out in 2010.
Local law enforcement agencies will have the opportunity to show off equipment and promote community awareness. This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors and public safety officers, so please join us in our efforts to promote a safe and connected community. See you there!
