Event Description:
In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season the City of South Padre Island will hold its annual "Hurricane Awareness" meeting. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the South Padre Island City Hall.Local officials along with representatives from the National Weather Service will discuss the forecast for the upcoming 2011 hurricane season and the City's plans in the event of a Hurricane. The Hurricane season starts June 1st and runs through November 30th.
History teaches us that a lack of preparation is a common threat among all major hurricane disasters. By knowing our strengths and weaknesses and preparing for such an event we can reduce the impact and improve overall safety for our residents, business owners and visitors.
"We invite everyone to attend the meeting to learn more about what is needed to be prepared for a storm. The City encourages everyone to think about their options before a storm approaches. The time to prepare is now, not when a storm is heading our way", said Burney Baskett, Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator.
