Idea Sharing back
Date of Record: February 5, 2011

Thank you for checking out South Padre Island's idea sharing service.  Please read the information below before continuing to the idea sharing site.

The idea sharing service is provided free to the City by IdeaScale (www.IdeaScale.com).  The service is used all over the world, including the federal government.  The way it works is members join the website, submit ideas and then other community members can add comments, additional information and vote ideas up or down.

Ideas that gain a lot of support will then be routed to the City staff for review.  The City's leadership team reviews ideas to see how they can be accomplished.  If more information is needed, the idea is presented back to the community for further input.  The service is completely community driven.

Popular ideas will be shared through the City's weekly newsletter (starting March 1st) so that additional input and comments can be provided.  Ideas should be community topics and contain information on how the idea may be accomplished.

*Note:  The idea site should not be used for complaints.  Complaints and specific suggestions should be directed directly to City staff through the action center.  The service is intended to derive ideas that benefit the entire community with possible solutions or steps to complete it.

Sample Idea

Sample Idea: Emergency Email Subscription
Sample Idea Details:  Provide a newsletter that community members can subscribe to on the City's website that will be used to send out alerts and information during emergency situations.  Example emergency situations could be:
  • Bridge Closures
  • Power Outages
  • Water Line Breaks
  • Storms and Evacuation Information

Sample Idea Comment: It would be great if we could receive the alerts via text message because in emergency situations we do not always have access to a computer or email.
