Project 3: Corral Street Public Access and Boating Infrastructure
Project Information:
- Location: Cul-de-sac at the end of Corral Street on the Laguna Madre, South Padre Island
- Land to be Acquired: 0.84 acres (5 parcels)
- Project Cost: $2,440,482.00
- Project Duration: 12 months
Project Purpose:
- Acquire 5 parcels of Laguna fronting land (willing sellers secured)
- Restore and enhance boat docks
- Construct safe and efficient boater access infrastructure
- Provide low-impact public access to the Laguna Madre
- Enhance recreational and eco-tourism opportunities, boosting the tourism-based local economy

Areas & Enhancements:
The project will promote a variety of recreational and public access amenities that will encourage visitors to support the local economy. The much needed boating infrastructure will allow boaters, fishers, and kayakers to safely access the Laguna Madre. Amenities will include:
- 31 parking spaces that comply with boating requirements
- 1 boat ramp
- 2 fish cleaning stations
- 5 boat docks
The public access & recreation opportunities include:
- Boat ramp & refurbished bulkhead
- Refurbish 5 transient boat docks
- Laguna Madre access
- Environmental education signage
- Educational signage of coastal habitat and boating safety
The City has obtained documentation of willing sellers for the five parcels proposed for acquisition. The project has the full support of the Chamber and Commerce and the Economic Development Board of South Padre Island. The education component of the project includes providing environmental education signage on Laguna Madre habitat, flora, fauna, and boating safety.
